Fire crews are working this afternoon to put out a large grass fire north of Cheyenne.

Laramie County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Don Hollingshead says a resident on the west side of County Road 124 was burning trash when it got out of hand.

"It jumped the road and started a fire that went eastbound from that location across the prairie," said Hollingshead. "We're lucky that it was out back behind the row of houses that are closer to U.S. Highway 85."

Hollingshead says Laramie County Fire Districts 2, 6, 8 and 10 as well as the F.E. Warren Air Force Base Fire Department are battling the blaze.
