The College National Finals Rodeo started on Sunday in Casper with the Bulls, Broncs, and Breakaway events. Both the University of Wyoming men and women qualified for the CNFR as a team with the Cowboys taking 1st in the Central Rocky Mountain Region and the Cowgirls placing 2nd.

In the breakaway roping, UW's Olvia Lay and Jordan McNamee turned in times of 3 and 5 to sit in 25th place. Over in the bareback, former Thermopolis High School state champion wrestler Roedy Farrell turned in a 78 and sits in 5th place. Farrell competes for Tarleton State in Texas. Cooper Filipek of Gillette College is 6th in the bareback with a 77.5 and Chase Siemens of Casper College is 12th with a 76.

Over in the saddle bronc, Thayne Elshere from Gillette College is the early leader in the 1st go with an 84.5 while his brother Talon who rides for Casper College is 2nd with an 80.5. There were just 4 qualified bull rides on Sunday.

The first slack round is set for Monday morning at the Ford Center with the 2nd slack round on Tuesday morning. The first evening performance will be on Tuesday as the CNFR runs through Saturday.
