The service issued this statement on its website on Thursday morning:

"Some light snow is expected to fall over the area mainly this afternoon and tonight with generally 1 to 3 inches of snowfall expected by the time it tapers off Friday. The highest amounts currently favor the mountains as well as northern Nebraska Panhandle."
