Classes Start Monday In Cheyenne Schools
The 2019-2020 school year officially gets under on Monday, August 26, in Laramie County School Distric#1.
That means motorists need to slow down in school zones and watch for parked school buses. The Cheyenne Police Department and Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr have both issued statements reminding motorists of the special traffic laws in school zones, and police say they will be out in force looking for violators.
A new law passed by the Wyoming Legislature earlier this year will also allow the registered owners of cars passing parked school buses to be ticketed for the offense, even if they can't clearly be identified as the driver of the vehicle in question.
That's a change from past years when the owners could only be ticketed of school bus cameras clearly identified the car owner as driving the bus. The 2019-2020 school year is scheduled to end on June 3, 2020.
