A bill to regulate self-driving cars has been filed for the upcoming session of the legislature.

Wyoming was 21st in the nation in pedestrian deaths in 2019, a number that does not include serious injuries.

The penalty for any passengers over 12 not wearing seat belts would increase from the current $10 to $100.

The bill would also allow traffic stops for seat belt violations, rather than requiring another traffic violation before a stop could be made, as required by current law.

The installation of the cameras on Interstates 80 and 25, Teton Pass, and school and construction zones would generate an estimated $72 million in fines.

Supporters of the measure say it would encourage seat belt usage, which would save lives.

The Cheyenne Police Department and Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr have both issued statements reminding motorists of the special traffic laws in school zones.
