The Old Community House in Lion's Park will close on August 18 and is scheduled to be demolished on September 1, according to Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen.

The mayor says the building was opened in 1952 and has since been the site of birthday parties, weddings parties and countless other events and activities.

But at this point maintaining the old building and keeping it safe for public events has become too expensive, and renovating it would likewise be even more expensive.

The restrooms at the building will be renovated starting September 1.

The mayor says city officials are also hoping to build a large picnic shelter where the community house is now, but that project will have to wait until funding is available
