A 25-year-old Cheyenne woman is facing a felony drug charge after police say they found six grams of meth during a traffic stop.

According to an affidavit, police stopped Kelly G. Peterman near the Rodeo Inn at 3839 E. Lincolnway on Jan. 3 for having a license plate light out.

The traffic stop led to the discovery of a backpack containing six grams of meth and a small amount of marijuana and cocaine.

Police believed the drugs belonged to Margret Hughs, one of Peterman's passengers, but during a Jan. 5 interview, Peterman stated the drugs were hers.

On Feb. 7, police obtained a search warrant for Peterman's cell phone. They observed numerous text messages in which Peterman agreed to sell drugs to others, however, there were no messages indicating she'd sold on Jan. 3.

A felony possession of meth charge was filed against Peterman yesterday (Wednesday) in Laramie County Circuit Court. The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison.

Peterman is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $5,000 cash bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 12 at 9 a.m.
