The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service says some higher elevations of southeast Wyoming could see up to two feet of snow between Thursday and Saturday.

The service posted this statement on its website early Wednesday morning:

''It appears that a prolonged period of snow will occur over the higher mountains of southeast Wyoming from Thursday afternoon through the day Saturday. Periods of snow appear likely with pretty heavy snowfall amounts possible by the time it tapers off late Saturday. Some blowing and drifting snow is also possible as there should be some gusty winds as well. Be aware of this if out in the backcountry as visibilities may become quite low at times and trails increasingly difficult to see."
