Cheyenne Trash Fees to Increase in July

Starting July 1, Cheyenne residents and businesses will see an increase in their trash pickup bill.

The City Council voted 7 to 2 Monday night to increase solid waste fees by 5 percent, with the stipulation that none of the revenues be used for payroll "until the construction and equipment objectives identified in the 2014 HDR study have been completed."

"The average residential customer has a 95 gallon garbage container and a 95 gallon recycle container (and) will pay $1.40 more per month," said Public Works Director Vicki Nemecek.

"The average commercial customer has a two-yard container that's emptied three times a week, that will increase by $9.25 a month," she added.

Nemecek says the increase will also impact the 10,500 customers who've opted to have their yard waste picked up, as that fee will jump from $7.90 to $9.20 per month.

"This increase will allow us to add an additional yard waste route," said Nemecek. "The increase will cover the cost of an additional yard waste collection truck and driver over a seven year period."

"We will add the new route April 1, 2019," Nemecek added.

Councilmen Richard Johnson and Scott Roybal voted against the amended ordinance. Mayor Marian Orr was absent from Monday night's meeting.
