Cheyenne Transient Charged After Getting Caught in Stolen SUV
A 31-year-old Cheyenne transient could face up to 10 years in prison after police caught him behind the wheel of a stolen SUV.
Vernon Tennant was arrested on April 2 after police found him and his friend, Frank Hardy, Jr., parked behind Shari's restaurant in a stolen 2005 Toyota 4Runner.
Police say the SUV, valued at $5,000, was stolen from Alf's Pub the previous day after the driver left it running with the keys in it.
Tennant told police that he was staying at the Rodeo Inn and had messaged Derrick Hill asking for a ride.
Hill reportedly dropped the SUV off in the hotel parking lot so Tennant could use it, but the two didn't meet.
When Tennant saw Hardy walking in the area, he agreed to give him a ride and drove to Shari's to obtain a WiFi signal.
Tennant was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property.
Tennant is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $5,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 12 at 9:30 a.m.
