A spokeswoman for the Cheyenne Police Department says officers have conducted 374 traffic stops and issued 333 citations as part of a special traffic enforcement effort targeting an area around Central Avenue in Cheyenne.

Enforcement Effort Was Sparked By Residents Concerns

Alex Farkas says that is for the period between June 15 and August 23. Earlier this year police announced the effort on a Facebook post, saying ''increasing traffic enforcement along Central Avenue corridors between 8th Avenue and Pershing Boulevard. This roadway has been designated as a Critical Traffic Control Area (CTCA) by the City.''\

The CTCA program lets city residents ask for special attention to areas they say are experiencing a .lot of traffic issues. If the data bears that out, steps will be taken to address the problem.

Specific to the Central Avenue corridors, steps being taken include increased police patrols, stiffer fines and more signage.

Farkas says the effort is ongoing. "The Critical Traffic Control Committee's next meeting is scheduled for September 8, where the city will re-evaluate the data to decide whether to remove, extend, or make any of these actions permanent."

Aside from the Central Avenue enforcement effort, Farkas says Cheyenne Police in general have been stepping up traffic enforcement across the city. She says so far in 2025, "CPD officers have made 10,725 traffic stops total in 2025, compared to 8,984 during the same period in 2024 - an overall increase of 19.91%."
