Cheyenne Woman Arrested on New Year’s Eve Faces Serious Charges
A 23-year-old Cheyenne woman is facing serious charges following an alleged alcohol-fueled domestic violence incident.
According to a booking sheet, police arrested Jaya-Maleah Ojenae Brown at 11:50 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025.

Brown was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with strangulation of a household member - applying pressure on the throat or neck, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison; and domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail, up to a $750 fine, or both.
Initial Court Appearance
On Monday, Jan. 5, Brown was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge TJ Forwood on the charges.
Forwood appointed Brown a public defender then asked the state for recommendation on bond.
"The state would be requesting $7,500 cash in this matter," the state said. "There's also allegations that the defendant was intoxicated during this matter and the state would request alcohol testing."
"I'm actually hoping for a little bit lower," Brown told Forwood. "I have a job, and I'd like to get back to school sometime and finish my semester."
Out on Bond
Forwood set Brown's bond at $5,000 cash or surety, which was later posted, and set her preliminary hearing for Monday, Jan. 12, at 9:30 a.m.
He also ordered she undergo alcohol testing at the Drug Testing Center of Cheyenne three times a month.
Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
