A 57-year-old Cheyenne man is facing a slew of charges after a routine traffic stop turned into a significant drug bust.

Traffic Stop Leads to Meth, Cocaine

According to a booking sheet, Mathew Jacoby was arrested at 10:25 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, after a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper stopped him for driving 95 mph in a 75-mph zone and, through further investigation and a positive K-9 alert, found methamphetamine on him and cocaine in the vehicle.

It's alleged that Jacoby possessed 479.1 grams (1.06 pounds) of methamphetamine and 16.5 grams of cocaine.

3 Felonies

Jacoby was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged by information with three felonies, including possession of methamphetamine and cocaine, each punishable by up to seven years in prison, up to a $15,000 fine, or both; and possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison, up to a $25,000 fine, or both.

3 Misdemeanors

Jacoby was also charged by citation with three misdemeanors, including speeding, failure to display valid license plates, and failure to provide proof of liability insurance.

Initial Court Appearance

On Wednesday, Dec. 10, Jacoby was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Antoinette Williams on the charges.

Williams appointed Jacoby a public defender and set his preliminary hearing and arraignment for Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m.

Williams then asked for the state's position regarding bond.

"Considering that it was over a pound of meth, that's a huge substantial concern in the community's safety," the state said.

"This individual has an extensive history going back to the 80s," the state added. "This is an individual who has, your honor, no respect for laws, no respect for court orders, no respect for the well-being of others. The state would ask for a $75,000 cash bond."

Williams also noted that Jacoby was just put on probation, and the state said it intended to file a petition to revoke.

Bond Set at $75K Cash

"On the felony matters, the court will set the bond at $75,000 cash," Williams said. "On the misdemeanors, the court will set the bond for the bond amount on each of the citations ($795 total)."

Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
