Cheyenne Police Warn of Fundraising Scam
Cheyenne police are warning residents not to fall for a phone scam in which people are trying to raise money for the department.
Officer Kevin Malatesta says scammers are calling people pretending to be from the police department or acting on behalf of the Cheyenne Police Protective Association.
"People shouldn't be receiving a phone call from us asking for money," said Malatesta. "We don't raise funds in that way."
"If they do receive that type of phone call the best course of action is to hang up," he added.
Citizens are urged to contact the police if they have any questions regarding a phone solicitation.
Folks should also be aware that most reputable organizations will not randomly contact people over the phone asking for money.
