Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak says his officers have training and equipment in place to deal with civil unrest and public disturbances.

The Chief says his officers will train this summer in how to deal with such situations involving  civil unrest and rapid deployment, adding it is something his department does routinely.

He also says the department has a policy in place for dealing with such situations, and also has plenty of tear gas, riot shields and police helmets on hand should they ever be needed.

But he says such equipment would be kept out of sight as long as demonstrations remain peaceful. He says it would only be deployed to control violence, should it occur.

Kozak says he has some experience in dealing with such situations from his time as a police officer in Arizona. He says it wasn't uncommon for gang members to start public disturbances at car shows there, and for police to be called in to restore order
