A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department says police are still actively investigating a double homicide that happened at a Cheyenne business on July 20.

Officer Dan Long says that while he can't get into specific details, police are still evaluating evidence in the case and looking into possible leads. The shooting deaths of 67-year old Dwight Brockman and 76-year old George Manley were reported at around 9 a.m. July 20 at The Coin Shop on West Lincolnway, and Long says police detectives are still busy trying to solve the case.

Brockman was the owner of the business, while Manley was a frequent customer.

Officer Long says people need to understand that evaluating forensic evidence in cases such as this one can take months or even years.

Long says identifying the fingerprints from the Coin Shop is especially difficult because it's hard to know which prints might be those of the killer as opposed to customers or others who visited the business. He says another challenge is searching through records to find known prints, as opposed to prints that aren't on record anywhere. He says identifying DNA presents similar challenges.

Long says an active case is different than a cold case, which may lay dormant for years while all known evidence has been investigated and police wait for new information which may re-open the case. But Long says even in cold cases, it's not unusual for information to eventually come in which leads to one or more arrests years later.

In the case of The Coin Shop killings police have said little in recent months other than comments by Chief Brian Kozak in September that investigators were ''looking into some great leads" in the case. Kozak at that time also threatened to ''come down hard" on anyone withholding information on the double homicide.

A total of $10,000 in reward money has been offered for information in the case. Police released one sketch of a suspect shortly after the killing and then another a short time later. However, the sketches don't appear to be of the same person.
