Cheyenne NWS: Expect Several Inches Of Snow, Sub-Zero Wind Chills

Forecasters with the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service say a winter storm which is expected to hit southeast Wyoming could dump up to 6 inches of snow on Cheyenne and push wind chills as low as -6.

Laramie could receive up to a foot of snow.

Forecasters are keeping an eye on a strong cold front which is expected to rock the area through Friday morning. The service issued this situation report on Tuesday morning:

Early October Winter Storm Updated Situation Report as of 6 AM Oct. 8th

• Winter Storm Watches remain in effect from 6 PM Wednesday through noon Friday.
  • Watch expanded to include Platte and Goshen Counties in Wyoming and in Nebraska, southern Sioux, Dawes and Box Butte Counties.
  • Winter Weather Advisories likely to be issued closer to the onset of the event across many portions of the region.  
• Flash Freeze Wednesday Evening: Plummeting temperatures will cause precipitation that starts out as rain to freeze on roadways quickly, especially bridges.
• Widespread accumulating snow and hazardous travel likely Wednesday Night - Friday Morning.
• Sporadic power outages could be possible due to leaves still being on trees combined with the snow and wind.
