Cheyenne Mom Charged with Murder, Child Abuse in Son’s Death
A 25-year-old Cheyenne woman has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse in the death of her baby boy.
Laramie County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Don Hollingshead says deputies were called to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center on April 26, after staff reported "suspicious injuries" to a 13-month-old boy. The baby was flown to Children's Hospital Colorado where he died.
"The DA's Office and the Sheriff's Department held off on any charges until the final results of the autopsy were confirmed this week," said Hollingshead.
"The autopsy came out that the child died of homicide," Hollingshead added. "The injuries to the child were closed-head trauma, that's related to shaken baby syndrome."
A warrant was issued for Sabrina A. Sawicki, the baby's mother, and she was arrested around 1 p.m. yesterday (Monday).
"The DA's Office requested a $50,000 cash or surety bond on her," said Hollingshead. "Right now we just have her that the DA's Office is looking at for the charges, nobody else."
