Cheyenne Man Facing Felony Drug Charges After Alleged Joyride
A 23-year-old Cheyenne man is facing felony drug charges after leading police on a chase with a stolen car.
According to court documents, police pulled a car over around 11 p.m. on May 4 for having a headlight out and discovered the car had been reported stolen on April 27.
When police approached the car, the driver, later identified as Karl Vongettrost Jr., took off. A short time later, Vongettrost and another man jumped out of the car and ran away.
Police searched the car and found a backpack with 4.9 grams of methamphetamine, 3.4 grams of heroin, 1.84 grams of marijuana in some trans-dermal patches and a glass pipe in it.
Vongettrost was located around 2:30 a.m. the following morning and arrested. Police say Vongettrost told them the backpack was his and that he ran because he had a lot of drugs in the car.
Vongettrost also reportedly told police that he knew the owner of the car, but had not been able to return it.
Vongettrost was charged with joyriding, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of heroin, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and eluding. He's also facing two misdemeanor drug possession charges stemming from an incident on March 30.
Vongettrost's arraignment is scheduled for May 9 in Laramie County Circuit Court.
