A 26-year-old Cheyenne man is facing felony charges after abducting his girlfriend's one-year-old son Thursday afternoon, prompting an Amber Alert.

Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Officer Kevin Malatesta says Mijito Johnson struck his pregnant girlfriend multiple times before taking Gregory Marks from her arms and fleeing.

Johnson was arrested at his brother's house in Aurora, Colorado around 10 p.m. after police found his abandoned SUV in a nearby parking lot. Marks was recovered safely.

The Laramie County District Attorney's Office on Friday charged Johnson with two counts of aggravated assault against a pregnant woman and interference with custody.

Johnson remains jailed in Colorado awaiting extradition. If convicted, he could face up to 22 years in prison.
