Cheyenne Man Arrested, Charged in Connection With Robbery
A man accused of trying to steal over $1,000 worth of cigarettes from a Cheyenne gas station last month is now behind bars.
Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Officer Kevin Malatesta says 19-year-old Nicholas Halcott, of Cheyenne, was arrested Friday in connection to a robbery which took place at the Big D Exxon at 2029 Dell Range on Oct. 10.
"Halcott went into the store, attempted to grab a large box of cigarettes that was behind the counter and tried to leave the store," said Malatesta.
"He was confronted by store employees and then proceeded to fight with those store employees and he actually bit one of the employees," Malatesta added. "Halcott then fled on foot, ran to a vehicle and then drove away."
Malatesta says thanks to tips from the public, investigators were able to identify Halcott as the suspect and arrest him.
"At the time of his arrest, he was also found to have a suspected methamphetamine pipe with residue on it," said Malatesta.
Halcott has been charged with robbery-bodily injury, interference with a peace officer-resist, misdemeanor possession of methamphetamine and felony attempt theft.
Halcott is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $5,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20 at 9 a.m.
