$10K Cash Bond Set for Cheyenne Man Accused of Stealing Vehicle
A 48-year-old Cheyenne man is being held on a $10,000 cash bond after allegedly stealing a vehicle.
Arrest Details
According to a booking sheet, police arrested James Howard Pickering on McCann Avenue at Charles Street at 8:22 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Police say alcohol and drugs were involved.
Pickering was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center for misdemeanor possession of a powdery substance and felony motor vehicle theft.
He was subsequently charged with felony theft, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.
Initial Court Appearance
On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Pickering was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Antoinette Williams on the charge.
Williams appointed Pickering a public defender and set his preliminary hearing for Wednesday, March 4, at 2:15 p.m.

Williams then asked for the state's position regarding bond.
"Your honor, I've reviewed Mr. Pickering's federal criminal history. He has a very long history of failures to appear, being extradited to other jurisdictions on warrants, various things of that nature. Additionally, it appears he has no ties to this community, and he has a prior motor vehicle theft in '21," the state said. "The state's going to be recommending $10,000 cash in this matter."
Bond Set at $10,000 Cash
"Your bond is $10,000 cash," Williams told Pickering.
Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
