Cheyenne Council OKs $185,541 for Mobile Stage
The Cheyenne City Council on Monday night approved spending $185,541 to purchase a mobile stage for the Community Recreation and Events Department.
Because of the splash pad going in on the Depot Plaza, Deputy Director Jason Sanchez says the department -- which hosts Fridays on the Plaza -- was forced to move the current stage to the east side of the plaza.
"They were able to acquire the funding (for the splash pad) at a quicker pace than what we anticipated," said Sanchez. "What it (the mobile stage) gives us the ability to do is to continue to host the event that the community has come to know and love."
Sanchez says they'll also be able to use the mobile stage for events at the Civic Commons, the Ice and Events Center and Edge Fest as well as rent it out to members of the community.
"It does have the potential to generate some revenue," said Sanchez. "With proper maintenance, I'm assuming we can get about 15 to 20 years from the mobile stage."
The council has yet to determine what revenue sources they're going to use to pay for the mobile stage.
