Solar Energy Project Planned For Cheyenne-Owned Belvoir Ranch
The City of Cheyenne is discussing a lease agreement for a solar energy project for the city-owned Belvoir Ranch.
That's according to a post on the City of Cheyenne Facebook page.
According to the post, Hanwha Renewables wants a lease for 25 or more years for a solar and energy storage project. No other uses would be permitted under the lease.
The Cheyenne City Council must approve the lease. The Council Public Service Committee is slated to take up the issue on Sept. 28, and the full council will consider it next month. The City Council also has a workshop scheduled for this Friday, Sept. 25 at 12 noon.
Open House Scheduled For Later This Week
Hanwha Renewables has scheduled an open house on the project later this week,
The open house will be Thursday, Sept. 24, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Laramie County Community College Training Center (TC), Room 112. Light refreshments will be provided.
According to the Facebook post, "this project would mark the second Hanwha Renewables project in Laramie County. Under its former name, Qcells Development, Hanwha Renewables developed the 150 MW South Cheyenne Solar project off South Greeley Highway in unincorporated Laramie County. The company received the 2023 Industry Wildlife Stewardship Award from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department for the project’s extensive wildlife mitigation measures, exceeding regulatory requirements."
The city says the project will not interfere with an open trail network on the Belovir Ranch.
