UPDATE: Cheyenne Cop Forced to Shoot Dog, Suspect Still at Large

A Cheyenne police officer is recovering after being attacked and bitten by a dog yesterday (Monday) afternoon.

Sgt. David Janes says officers were called to 612 E. 2nd Street at 3:10 p.m. after a tow company repossessing a pickup at the address discovered it was registered to wanted felon Daniel Gutierrez.

"One officer went to the front door to knock, while Officer Casey Patterson went around to the back door," said Janes. "While he was in the backyard he was confronted by Ashley Gutierrez, who began to argue with him and yell and swear at him."

"While he was talking to Ms. Gutierrez, a large dog came running out of the back door of the house," added Janes. "Gutierrez informed Officer Patterson that the dog would get him."

Janes says the 120-pound Mastiff attacked Patterson, biting him on the left forearm and wrist. The dog then let go, repositioned and lunged at Patterson again.

"Officer Patterson was forced to shoot the dog," said Janes. "He shot several shots, five in total, until the dog stopped coming after him."

Janes says officers were unable to locate 32-year-old Daniel Gutierrez, who's wanted on a felony federal warrant for probation violation with an original charge of felony possession of methamphetamine.

Gutierrez is a 5-foot-7, white male with brown hair and brown eyes. He has large tattoos on his neck and head and is considered armed and dangerous.

A Cheyenne police officer is recovering after being bitten by a dog yesterday (Monday) afternoon.

According to police, the officer was attempting to serve a warrant in the 600 block of E. 2nd Street when a 120-pound Mastiff bit him.

The officer opened fire, killing the dog.

Police say the officer, who was treated for a wound to his arm, was the only person injured during the encounter.
