A 31-year-old Cheyenne man could face up to 27 years in prison after police reportedly caught him with cocaine.

Police say Mohler was in possession of a felony amount of cocaine and an open container.

He also reportedly had a warrant out of Laramie County Circuit Court for failure to appear for an arraignment on Sept. 2 on an original charge of careless driving, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 days in jail and/or a $200 fine.

The crime is alleged to have occurred on or about July 20.

Police say Mohler refused to provide an updated address and phone number during booking.

Misdemeanor Warrant

On Nov. 3, Mohler was seen in Circuit Court in front of Judge Antoinette Williams on the warrant.

Bond Set at $500 Cash

His arraignment was set for Dec. 3 at 9:30 a.m. and his bond was set at $500 cash.

Felony Charges

The following morning, Nov. 4, Williams saw Mohler on two felony charges, including possession of cocaine, a crime punishable by up to seven years in prison, up to a $15,000 fine, or both, and possession with intent to deliver cocaine, a crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison, up to a $25,000 fine, or both.

Williams appointed Mohler a public defender and his preliminary hearing was set for Nov. 12 at 3 p.m.

Williams then asked for the state's position regarding bond.

"Mr. Mohler has prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance and probation violations for those convictions," the state said. "I would note the failure to appear in these felony charges, especially given the dangerous nature of these charges and Mr. Mohler's prior convictions and violations of probation, the state believes that $20,000 cash is appropriate in this matter."

"What's his criminal history," Williams asked the state.

"I have a possession of a controlled substance in 2012 from the Laramie County Sheriff's Department, I see a violation, and it looks like he was sentenced to 30 days in jail for that possession," the state said.

"Then I see these charges here now, your honor, the felony possession of cocaine and the intent to deliver," the state added. "There's also citations for careless driving which he's failing to appear for."

Bond Set at $10K Cash

"The court will set your bond at $10,000 cash," Williams told Mohler.

Out on Bond

Mohler posted the $10,500 on Nov. 5.

Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
