The Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne and United Way are teaming up to bring the Cheyenne Children's Carnival to town June 1. The carnival gives families a chance to take part in helping with local organizations that are serving children within the Cheyenne community.

The Cheyenne Children's Carnival will take place at the clubhouse at 515 Jefferson Rd. The event will also give a chance for parents and guardians of 4-year old children that are going into kindergarten in the upcoming fall to register for free for Waterford Upstart Summer Learning Path. The program, which is a condensed version, gives the child a chance to be reading at a 1st grade reading level upon entering kindergarten. The event will have computer stations set up so that the children may get hands-on experience with the program.

Waterford.org Director of Family Partnerships Candra Morris spoke about the importance of Waterford taking part in the event:

Many parents and caregivers stepped into the role of a teacher figure to support their children during the pandemic when schools were forced to close. Sharing stories of how balancing academics, home life and working, amongst other things, presented challenges in the midst of a global pandemic...It brought joy to my heart knowing that our Waterford resources provided families with resources and strategies to help academically. Providing families with resources helped to empower families during that time to ensure that they had the skills and what it takes to continue learning at home.

The event is free and includes dinner. Those planning to attend can earn extra carnival cash by registering at the link provided here.

Chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne Justin Pendleton had this to say about the importance of the event:

Our goal is to help young people thrive along every step of their academic career. This begins with a strong platform for learning and engagement. Though the Club serves youth ages 6-18, we also want to reach younger children and ensure they are prepared to enter kindergarten. Our partnership with Waterford.org allows us to carry this mission beyond the walls of the Club and foster the next generation of learners.

It's all happening at the Cheyenne Children's Carnival June 1!
