Legal Troubles Mount for Cheyenne Woman After Walmart Arrest
A 42-year-old Cheyenne woman is facing a burglary charge after allegedly shoplifting from Walmart.
Shoplifting Leads to Burglary Charge
According to a booking sheet, police were called to the Walmart at 2032 Dell Range Blvd. at 1:57 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, for a report Jewel Tomasa Ponce de Leon shoplifted.
When police ran Ponce de Leon's name, they discovered she had an active warrant out of Cheyenne Municipal Court for failure to appear on multiple shoplifting charges.
Police say Ponce de Leon is trespassed from Walmart.
Ponce de Leon was subsequently arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on her warrant as well as a single count of burglary, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.
Initial Court Appearance
On Tuesday, Oct. 28, Ponce de Leon was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Antoinette Williams on the burglary charge.
Williams appointed Ponce de Leon a public defender and her preliminary hearing was set for Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 1:30 p.m.

Williams then asked for the state's position regarding bond.
"Ms. Ponce (de Leon) has a lengthy criminal history and was arrested partially because she has several outstanding warrants," the state said. "I think — this is a felony charge and in conjunction with her criminal history — $5,000 is more than generous in this matter."
"What is her criminal history," asked Williams.
"There was a domestic ... on Aug. 29 of this year," the state said. "I'd also note that in the probable cause remarks, that Ms. Ponce (de Leon) was served with a trespass warning on Dec. 3, 2024, and that the active warrant that she was arrested on was for multiple shopliftings. I believe those were out of the city court, but in either event, your honor, again, this is a felony, this is a clear disregard for the laws of the state of Wyoming, and she didn't come to court, so a cash bond is appropriate in this matter."
Bond Set at $3K Cash
"Based on the nature of the offense and the prior criminal history, the court's going to go ahead and set your bond at $3,000 cash," said Williams.
Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
