The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities is reminding residents that watering of lawns and gardens is prohibited between the hours of 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. until Sept. 1.

The restrictions, which are an annual event in Cheyenne during the summer months, went into effect on May 1.

A BOPU news release says crews have seen people violating the watering rules lately, and is warning people that the rules will be enforced. A first violation will result in a warning, a second violation can bring a $415 fine being added to the water bill. Three or more violations could result in a fine of $690.

Cheyenne residents can water up to three days a week during the evening or morning hours and are being asked to avoid watering on windy or rainy days. Wasting water, such as letting it run down the street, is illegal.

People who want to water daily to establish new seed or sod must get a special watering permit.
