A 40-year-old Cheyenne man is in hot water after reportedly trying to fight the police.

According to a booking sheet, Leslie Ernie Whiteface was arrested at North College Drive and East Lincolnway at 5:22 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, after police contacted him for walking drunk through traffic and hopping out of a vehicle.

The arresting officer says multiple attempts were made to get Whiteface to go with his family, but Whiteface attempted to strike him and was taken to the ground.

The officer says Whiteface attempted to continue to fight officers and was placed in the WRAP and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center, then taken to the hospital for jail clearance and back to the jail in the WRAP.

Whiteface was subsequently charged with interference with a peace officer - injury, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both; and misdemeanor property destruction, a crime punishable by up to six months in jail, up to a $750 fine, or both.

Initial Court Appearance

On Tuesday, Dec. 2, Whiteface was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Antoinette Williams on the charges.

Williams appointed Whiteface a public defender and set his preliminary hearing for Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 2:15 p.m.

Williams then asked for the state's position regarding bond.

"I don't know if the court has read the probable cause remarks," the state said. "Mr. Whiteface was fighting with the police. He had to be taken down and placed in a WRAP. Then when he was taken to the hospital, he was trying to chew through the side restraints of the hospital bed. That was the property damage."

"It's clear that Mr. Whiteface will not comply with lawful orders, and the state believes that $5,000 would be appropriate in this case," the state added.

Bond Set at $5K Cash

"Your bond in $5,000 cash," Williams told Whiteface. "If you post that, I'll set your bond conditions."

Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
