‘Cheyenne Anthem’ Named Capital City’s Official Song [VIDEO]
The Cheyenne City Council voted 8-1 Monday to adopt "Cheyenne Anthem" as the city's official song.
Home-grown talents Annie and Amy Smith, along with their equally talented colleagues Todd Dereemer and Ty Warner, wrote "Cheyenne Anthem" to commemorate the city's sesquicentennial.
"It is a song that I think that does depict our great city and our education and our history," said Scott Meier with AAI Music Publishing.
The tune celebrates the railroad's role in building Cheyenne, the military's ongoing patriotic presence and the city's western culture, and reminds all residents to "Live the Legend."
Richard Johnson was the lone councilman to vote against the ordinance saying, "I've went through city code and repealed so many laws in the last four years ... if (I) in a hundred years was to find a city anthem and try to find it I would try to repeal it then."
Councilman Dicky Shanor was absent from Monday night's meeting.
