Cheyenne has a shortage of rental properties and a bunch of empty buildings downtown. It seems like a no-brainer. Unfortunately, decades of neglect have taken their toll and the concept of urban living hasn't taken off...yet.

On May 20th, the DDA is hosting a Downtown Housing Tour to showcase the Capital City's trendiest urban lofts. The self-guided tour begins with the historic Irwin Barn.

Originally a horse barn for the legendary rancher and rodeo performer C.B. Irwin, the property on 410 Randall Avenue (28th Street and Pioneer) was recently repurposed into upscale living spaces.

From there, the tour heads to the Frontier Hotel on 1901 Central. The property features studios and one bedroom apartments, along with a swanky penthouse loft on the roof.

Next stop is the loft at 211 East 17th Street, which is perched above a restaurant and was remodeled by DDA board member Jonathan Sevelle.

Next door at 107 E. 17th Street, the Ellis Loft occupies the top floor of the 17th & Central Executive Suites.

Down the street at 215 W. 17th Street, the second floor of the Mendocino Brothers Building features a residential space with historic significance. It lies next to the site where women were first granted the right to vote in 1869.

The final stop on the tour is just around the corner on 1711 Carrey, which houses a boutique wine and cheese shop with an upstairs loft. Soon, they'll have company, when a bistro opens next door in the Gannett Building.
