Cheyenne city officials say an unusually warm and dry late winter/early spring has helped work on several major projects move ahead on or ahead of schedule.

Work on the Logan Avenue Reconstruction Project, which started last year, was able to re-start in February. The $7.7 million dollar project includes a complete re-building of both the surface structure, including sidewalks and road re-surfacing, as well as replacement of water and sewer lines between Nationway and Pershing Boulevard.

Acting City Engineer Nathan Beauheim says repaving of the section between Nationway and ;Lincolnway should begin either later this week or early next week, depending on weather conditions.

Beauheim says once that is done the section should re-open to traffic fairly soon, although he added he doesn't have an exact time frame for that yet.  He adds even after the re-paving "there is a little more work to be done".

Beauheim says work on the $3.4 million 19th street project is also moving ahead, with the project currently in the underground utility stage. Beauheim says officials are hoping to move on to work on sidewalks, gutters and curbs within the next week or so.

Clint Bassett of the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities [BOPU] says that organization is planning on replacing over 9,600 feet of water lines at 9 different locations. The BOPU will also be replacing roughly 3600 feet of sewer mains at 22 different locations around Cheyenne.

Bassett says it's important to regularly replace water and sewer lines to keep the system working properly because "those lines don't last forever".
