Hunters are alerted that Gray Wolf Hunt Area 6, the Jackson Management Unit in the Jackson area closed Oct. 20 at 2:30 pm.  The Wyoming Game and Fish Department says the area closed because the mortality quota of three wolves was reached. Wolf seasons close in hunt areas where the species is classified as a trophy game animal when the mortality quota is reached or when the season closes on Dec. 31, whichever comes first.

Wolf hunters are reminded to pick up a copy of the 2012 Gray Wolf Hunting Regulations and call the Gray Wolf Mortality Quota Hotline (800) 264-1280 before going hunting to determine which hunt areas are still open. Information on hunt area closures and quotas is updated daily.

Any wolf harvested in the Wolf Trophy Game Management Area or the Seasonal Wolf Trophy Game Management Area (from Oct. 15 through Feb. 28) must be reported by calling the above hotline within 24 hours and the pelt and skull must be presented by the licensee within five days to a game warden, wildlife biologist or Game and Fish regional office for registration.
