University of Wyoming student-athletes not only enjoyed some of their most successful seasons on the playing field this past academic year, but they also posted their highest combined annual grade-point average in over a decade.

When combining the grade-point averages of all student-athletes from Wyoming’s NCAA-sanctioned sports for the 2011-12 fall and spring semesters, UW student-athletes achieved a 3.04 grade-point average for this past academic year.  That ranks as the highest from the period beginning with the 2001-02 academic year. The 3.04 grade-point average also exceeds the overall UW student population GPA of 2.91 for the 2011-12 academic year.

U.W.  Athletics Director Tom Burman says  this type of achievement in the classroom indicates that they do truly live up to the term student-athletes. The previous highest annual GPA achieved by UW student-athletes during the past 11 years was in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 academic years, when Cowboy and Cowgirl student-athletes recorded annual GPAs of 3.02.
