Some doctors have questioned whether or not kids have been misdiagnosed with ADHD. A new study now finds that many of these kids were given the wrong drugs.A new study has found that the psychotropic drugs that children, who have been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) have been taking to treat mental disease, have been increasing. But were they given the proper drugs?

The survey found that many of these children are receiving these drugs without any written diagnosis. The concern is two-fold. Once concern are the unseen or, in some cases, seen side effects the kids experience. But also, there are more effective treatments that the children may be missing out on.

Psychiatrists were saying that these symptoms would be better treated with behavioral therapy, psychotherapy and a stimulant drug like Ritalin.

The study found that 75 percent of these kids did see a psychiatrist at least once, but Michael Schoenbaum, of the National Institute for Mental Health, who worked on the study, said the correct way to deal with ADHD includes frequent follow-ups, in person, with their doctors and intensive therapy.
