Poll: Do You Support A Resolution Against New State Taxes?

The Laramie County Republican Party Central Committee on Tuesday passed a resolution calling on state lawmakers and Governor Matt Mead to cut spending rather than imposing new taxes to balance the state budget.

The resolution says of new taxes "There exists no fundamental right to the fruits of another person's labor." It also says new taxes hurt the state business climate and put a strain on the budgets of Wyoming families.

But supporters of tax increases would point to state obligations to pay for some services, including education. State schools are facing a projected budget shortfall in the range of $1.8 billion by 2020.

State government also spends money on a wide range of other services, ranging from the Wyoming Department of Corrections to money that is given to city and county governments.

Is there room for further cuts without endangering public safety and Wyoming schools?
