Law Enforcement Memorial & Parade Set for Saturday

The Cheyenne Police Department will join the Laramie County Sheriff’s Department, the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the USAF/90th Security Forces Group from FE Warren AFB this Saturday to honor all Wyoming Peace Officers who have died in the line of duty.

May 13 –19, 2012 is recognized as “National Police Week” across the country as law enforcement agencies honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving and protecting. To begin this special week, Cheyenne will host it’s 1st annual Law Enforcement Memorial & Parade this Saturday, May 12, 2012.

The event in Cheyenne will begin on the steps of the State Capitol Building by posting of the colors by the Cheyenne Police Cavalry Honor Guard at 1:00 pm. Mayor Kaysen will then read the Governor’s Police Week Proclamation, which was signed by Governor Mead on April 30th, 2012.

Soon after, a full honors law enforcement procession will proceed from that location southbound on Capitol Ave. to the Depot Plaza area. Law enforcement officers will then display cars and police equipment for public viewing and reception until 6:00 pm. At 6:30 pm, a special candlelight memorial service will be conducted in the Depot Plaza area. Lighting of candles, a moment of silence and reading of the names of Wyoming Peace Officers who have died in the line of duty, will be followed by a brief ceremony.
