City, State Officials Celebrate Arbor Day [VIDEO]

City of Cheyenne and State of Wyoming officials joined together to celebrate the 126th Wyoming Arbor Day Monday at the Supreme Court Building.

Mayor Rick Kaysen said that while Cheyenne reportedly had about a dozen trees when it was founded, it now has over 250,000, adding  trees are a valuable asset to the community that need to be maintained. Wyoming Secretary of State Max Maxfield read a proclamation from Governor Matt Mead declaring Monday as Arbor Day in the state.

Several Awards were also handed out, including one recognizing Dennis Hemmer of Cheyenne as the Outstanding Arbor Day Award recipient for his work in promoting trees.

The ceremony concluded with the planting of a White Fir donated by the XJWC of Cheyenne. Free seedling trees were also handed out at the event.
