Some people have done "plastic surgery" and have gotten away from credit cards. For those who haven't, be careful because they could be costing you more than you think.

Convenience costs all of us. Whether eating out, or taking a plane, most all conveniences will cost you more money than other routes. To include credit cards. Here are 5 ways that your credit card may be costing you more than you bargained for.

  1. Misleading Ad Rates - Rather than jumping on the phone to order your new credit card because you saw a hot ad that drew you in, call and shop around for the best credit card rates. You may find a much better deal than what you thought you were getting because of a well-produced ad.
  2. Your Overlooks Will Cost You - If you are not careful, your over site of a credit card due date will cost you big time! If you're late on your payment or if you credit starts to deteriorate, you can expect to pay more on any other future charges you may accrue.
  3. Watch The So-Called "Rewards" - These may appeal to your will and or your desires and appetites, but are they really real? You need to take a moment and compare how much extra money you are paying for the promoted rewards program to what you are really getting out of that program, especially if you are paying interest on a current credit card balance.
  4. Diversify Your Cards - Many people carry multiple credit cards and are mindful of the best rates. If this is you, you should be mindful as well. If you diversify and prioritize your credit cards, then you'll want to use the ones with the lowest rates.
  5. Zero Percent Balance Transfers - It may sound good, but there could be hidden transfer fees if you do this. Be mindful of those fees so that you are not surprised when you receive your bill and experience frustration when you call their member services department and get no where because "it was in the small print."
