The Wyoming Department of Transportation is warning Wyoming residents to be on the lookout for another texting phishing scam that is being widely reported.

That's according to a post on the WYDOT Facebook page.

Texting phishing scams, also known as smishing, are increasingly common. Like most phishing scams they rely on a sense of urgency and a threatening tone. As is the case with the latest scam, they often use he names of actual organizations and the threat of immediate consequences to fool potential victims

The latest scam is similar to one that was widely reported in Wyoming a few months ago.

It's notable for the fact that E-Z Pass does not operate in Wyoming. In fact the Cowboy State currently has no toll roads, although there has been discussion over the years of making Interstate 80 in Wyoming a toll road.

While Colorado does have toll roads, The E-Z Pass system doesn't operate there either. In fact Minnesota is the closest U.S. state to U.S. E-Z Pass.

None of that stops the con artists from targeting Wyoming residents, who presumably may think they owe the fines for violations in another state. This scam at least does not claim to be from the ''Wyoming Department of Motor Vehicles," an agency that does not exist.
