As Wyoming parents and students are spending more time together than usual, State Superintendent Jillian Balow says it's important to remember that ''parents are the best teachers."

Although Governor Mark Gordon and Superintendent Balow recently recommended that Wyoming schools close until April 3 in the wake of the worldwide coronavirus outbreak, they did not issue a mandatory order. Even so, Balow said on Friday that ''I don't know that any are open today."

In an interview with Glenn Woods on the ''Wake Up Wyoming'' program, the superintendent said that officials are hopeful that by the time the two-week recommended closure period comes to an end on April 3, educators will have a better idea of what the situation will look like going forward and whether additional closures will be needed.

In regard to students who are currently seniors in high school in Wyoming, Balow said the graduating class of seniors may ''look different"' than is typically the case. Balow said some seniors may get credit for out of classroom work, for example, in order to be able to graduate on time if longer-term closures are implemented.

''I can't imagine that those seniors would not get credit for the work they have already done, and the work they will continue to do, maybe through different means," she said.
