Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray says some county clerks in Wyoming did not follow the law in how they tested equipment used to tabulate votes in the state's upcoming August 20 primary election.

He is asking those who allegedly didn't to retest their equipment

Gray's office sent a letter to all 23 Wyoming County Clerks citing a state law on testing of election equipment. Gray did not list the counties which he says didn't follow the law,  but he does say it was ''multiple" counties.

The letter includes the following:

As outlined in our office’s June 25, 2024 guidance, W.S. 22-11-104(b)(iii) unambiguously states that ‘[d]uring the test a different number of valid votes shall be assigned to each candidate for an office, and for and against each measure,’ Secretary Gray wrote. “This requirement is not just a formality. It is crucial. Assigning the same number of votes for two or more candidates in the same race is plainly contrary to that statute.”

The Wyoming Republican Party and several candidates last week said they were suing

Laramie County Clerk Debra Lee for allegedly not following the proper procedure in

testing equipment. Lee has denied any wrongdoing,  but Gray says she has agreed to

retest the equipment.

But Gray says the problem is not limited to Laramie County.
