Wyoming Man Killed in Crash on I-80 During Winter Storm
A Wyoming resident is dead following a collision involving a commercial truck Wednesday on Interstate 80 near Sinclair.
Gary Campbell, 72, was fatally injured despite wearing his seat belt, according to a crash report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol. Another person involved in the crash was not injured.
The wreck occurred shortly before 10:45 a.m. when the driver of an eastbound commercial truck saw a Hyundai, driven by Campbell, backing up in the right-hand lane. Campbell evidently was trying to turn left into the cross-over between the eastbound and westbound lanes.
The truck hit the Hyundai on the driver's side door, and both vehicles ended up in the median, according to the crash report.
Weather conditions at the time included blowing snow; the road surface was icy with snow and sand laid down by snowplows.
Driver inattention is listed as a possible contributing factor in the crash.
