Wyoming Judge Will Not Allow Two Assault Trials for NFL Player
LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — A judge has ruled against holding two sexual assault trials for a former University of Wyoming football star.
The Laramie Boomerang reported Wednesday that a district court judge did not approve a request by an attorney representing Carl Granderson.
The 22-year-old is scheduled for a third-degree sexual assault trial beginning July 15.
Granderson signed with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints in April.
Two female UW students say Granderson touched them sexually while they slept at his Laramie apartment in 2018.
Granderson’s attorney says the charges should be separated into two trials, one for each alleged victim, because one trial would be “highly prejudicial” to the defendant.
The judge denying the request says the court will take care “to instruct the jury that it is to consider these offenses separately.”
