Starting July 1, the Wyoming Vital Statistics Services [VSS] will start adding a $5.00 surcharge for many of its services, according to a release from the Wyoming Department of Health.

The VSS is the only source for official Wyoming certificates, including birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates and related searches. The surcharge had previously been imposed for the documents, but it had expired in the past year.

However, the state legislature renewed it and it will go back into effect on July 1. The money collected will go to benefit the Wyoming Children's Trust Fund, a board appointed by Wyoming's governor.

The group works to ensure child abuse and neglect prevention is a priority in the state.
