A Wyoming legislative committee has voted to start work on a draft bill that would require Wyoming voters to produce identification when casting a ballot.

A similar bill, House Bill 192, was defeated in the Wyoming House by two votes earlier this year. Supporters of voter ID laws argue they are a tool to prevent voter fraud and present no more of an inconvenience than presenting ID to buy alcohol.

Opponents argue they are a thinly-veiled, often racist attempt to discourage low-income and minority voters from casting ballots.

Opponents of House Bill 192 in the Wyoming Legislature argued that such a bill is not needed in a rural state like Wyoming, where elections officials in many areas know local voters by name without the need for identification.

So what do you think? Is a voter ID law needed in Wyoming?

We'll publish the results On Monday, June 3.
