Weatherby Inc. Is Moving To Wyoming, But Who Are They?
Weatherby, Inc's plans to relocate its manufacturing operations and corporate headquarters from California to Sheridan. But just who are they?
Founded 1945 by Roy Weatherby, the company quickly gained a reputation for its magnum cartridges. The .257 Weatherby Magnum, 270 Weatherby Magnum, .300 Weatherby Magnum, .340 Weatherby Magnum and the .460 Weatherby Magnum.
The first product by Roy Weatherby was a series of commercial Mauser actions by FN, Brevex (magnum), and Mathieu (left hand). Weatherby would then go on to produce guns to customer's specifications.
It was in 1958 when Roy Weatherby introduced the Mark V bolt action. It was completely his design. It was crafted to withstand the hottest of Weatherby's experimental cartridges, which were exceeding 100,000 psi.
Weatherby also offers a line of shotguns for bird hunting, and trap/skeet shooting. There is the over-under double barrel, side-by-side double barrel, pump, and semi-automatic.
In 1983, Roy retired and handed the company over to his son Ed. Ed Weatherby then increased the line of ammo as well as entering into the collection of rifles they produce.
Company headquarters are currently located in the Paso Robles, California. Gun regulations as well as other state regulations and taxes caused the company to look for a new home. The company has now completed a deal to relocate to Sheridan, Wyoming.
