Visit Cheyenne President Darren Rudloff says a recent online survey found Cheyenne needs more ''destination events"  to attract visitors.

Rudloff says Cheyenne Frontier Days is obviously a major attraction that draws people to the city. But he says the survey found there is a need for similar events the rest of the year.

He says Cheyenne has many activities that people enjoy once they are here. or if they are traveling through. But what the survey and workshops found was that the city lacks enough major events that people will travel to Cheyenne for.

He says besides CFD, other examples of the type of activities that are needed are events such as the New Year's Eve First Night celebration that will draw people to the city. He says other examples include the Comic Con that has been scheduled for Cheyenne in May, or the Annual Summer Arts Festival.

Rudloff says more such events are needed, and the ones that are happening need to be publicized online and by word of mouth. He says another approach that could help the local travel industry is for people who are involved in various industry-specific groups--for example, the Wyoming Association of Broadcasters--to suggest Cheyenne as a site for conventions and annual meetings.

Rudloff says not all of the survey results were negative though. For example, the city scored well above average in terms of community support for tourism and a general understanding of the travel industry. He says the online survey included over 80 business and community event leaders, with followup workshops that allowed for further comment and discussion.
