This Day In Wyoming History: Nellie Tayloe Ross Becomes Governor

The state of Wyoming is certainly a place of firsts. We were the first, in the Union, to allow women to vote, which lead to the nation's first female Governor.

On this date in Wyoming history, in the year of 1924, Nellie Tayloe Ross not only became the first female governor in the state of Wyoming, but also in America.

It all came about when she was nominated by the Democratic Party to take the place of her husband, Governor William B. Ross, who had passed away.

She didn't win re-election, but her name is still on the map as becoming the first female governor on November 4, 1924.
